Exciting news today as Viola Gonzales is now a qualified candidate for the office of Oakland City Council in District 5. Viola would like to thank the excellent staff at the Oakland City Clerk's office for their professional assistance throughout the process. She looks forward to a spirited campaign and for the opportunity to share her positive message with all residents of District 5.
Viola Gonzales is a long-time Oakland resident, having served her community as a nonprofit executive, community leader, and neighbor for over 35 years. She has had the good fortune to serve on the Oakland School Board, the City Planning Commission, and the Oakland Fund for Children and Youth.
Viola is endorsed by Mayor Libby Schaaf, former Oakland mayor, Elihu Harris, former Oakland City Council President Ignacio De La Fuente, former Alameda County Superintendent of Schools Sheila Jordan, Oakland Port Commissioner Arabella Martinez, and numerous other leading community leaders.
She is running on a platform of bridge-building and community development. Viola believes that much of our current city leadership is fractured and this has lead to a failure to address the growing problems facing our great city. She believes the only way we will find solutions is through collaboration, communication, and shared effort. It is time for Oakland to look past individual agendas or ambitions and work together in common interest to solve our collective challenges.
